Waste Collection & Recycling

The City of Sylacauga contracts with GFL Environmental Inc.  for weekly residential garbage collection. The city itself handles curbside pickup of debris and other discarded items.

Please direct any questions to, report any problems to, or request additional containers from the City Clerk's office at 256-401-2401.

TRASH
A black container with a green lid is provided for household waste only. For collection, containers must be placed within two feet of the curb with a minimum of four feet between multiple containers. Containers must not be overloaded; lids should close, and all trash should be bagged and in a container. Do not place anything hot (e.g. ashes) or flammable liquids, chemicals, sand, soil, motor oil, construction waste, or hazardous materials in containers. Additional containers are available for $5 per month.

SERVICE DAYS

Click here for the regular garbage pickup schedule by day by street/road. If you cannot identify your approximate location, call the City Clerk's office at 256-401-2401 for clarification.

HOLIDAY SCHEDULE
If regularly-scheduled service would fall on New Year's Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving Day, or Christmas Day
, pickup will be the following weekday or Saturday unless otherwise rescheduled.

RECYCLING
Trailers are provided for drop-off of non-contaminated cardboard only at the Municipal Complex (Fire Station side, N. Norton Ave.) and in the MainStreet Family Care-Huddle House parking lot (U.S. Highway 280).

YARD/BULK WASTE
Waste must be placed in front of residences, not on vacant lots. Grass and leaves should be bagged or placed in large piles, not long rows. Grass clippings, limbs, or leaves should not be placed in or around storm drains or gutters. Waste must not be placed under power lines or near power poles, mailboxes, fences, fire hydrants, or vehicles. Note: contractor debris, roofing shingles, liquid paint, batteries, tires, and hazardous waste will not be picked up.
