Records Office
The Sylacauga Police Department Records Office provides copies of offense and/or accident reports upon request as well as fingerprinting and background check services. Located on the basement floor of the City Hall Municipal Complex at 301 N. Broadway Ave., the Records Office can be contacted at 256-391-4381 during regular weekday business hours from 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. The mailing address is P.O. Box 2460, Sylacauga, AL 35150.
FINGERPRINTING
Fingerprinting services are provided on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Fingerprinting is done by ink; live scan is not available. The fee for ink fingerprinting is $5 per person. Government agencies are not exempt from fees.
The Records Department does not provide fingerprinting cards. Fingerprinting cards must be provided to the individual by the employer or agency requesting the fingerprinting, and the individual is responsible for presenting the cards to the Records Office at the time of the fingerprinting.
BACKGROUND CHECKS
A local background check is provided for a fee of $5 per person. This background check will divulge information regarding a person’'s history only in the City of Sylacauga. This may or may not include adjudication information; in the event that adjudication information is not included, contact information for that court system will be provided.
A completed waiver form for all background checks before processing. Waiver forms are typically provided by the party requesting said information. An individual needing a background check must present the signed waiver and a valid driver license or state identification.
REQUESTING COPIES OF REPORTS, ETC.
Police reports, documents, photographs, and audio/video files are available upon request. Copies of Accident Reports and modified copies of Incident/Offense Reports are available for $5 each. Please see the Additional Fee Schedule for any other possible charges that could be incurred with additional information provided. Fees start at $1 and vary based on the type of information requested.
Requests must be processed in person or by mail; no reports are faxed or emailed. Government agencies are exempt. Please call the Records Office during regular business hours to confirm that a report is ready. Acceptable forms of payment include cash, check, credit card, or debit card.
To obtain a report by mail, send the request along with a $5 check or money order, a self-addressed stamped envelope, and as much case information as possible (e.g. case number, name, date of incident/accident, and location) to the Sylacauga Police Department Records Office, P.O. Box 2460, Sylacauga, AL 35150. In the event that a fully disclosed Incident/ Offense Report or an Arrest Report is needed, subpoenas may be delivered in person or mailed to Sylacauga Police Department Records Office.
