District 5: Dallas Davenport
Dallas Davenport moved to Sylacauga from Akron, Ohio, at age 10 when his father left the tire industry to return home. He attended Sylacauga High, then Jacksonville State University.
Davenport began a law enforcement career of 40-plus years as a reserve State Trooper and also worked at Beaunit Mills as a supervisor. Later, he drove a truck for Floyd & Beasley before joining the Talladega County Sheriff's Office as a deputy then becoming an investigator for the County. After an unsuccessful run for Sheriff, he joined the Sylacauga Police Department from which he retired in 2016.
For more than 20 years, Davenport has been involved with a Christmas shopping program for needy children sponsored by local industry. He also remains active in his church, is at the gym almost every morning, and was recently asked to serve on the Board of Directors for Alabama Teen Challenge, a Christian drug/alcohol rehabilitation center. He feels that his experience in all areas of the community has created a special bond with many people, which motivated him to run for city council. He is pushing for infrastructure improvements, new industry, and transparency.
Davenport is married to the former Patty Waites, and they have two children and four grandchildren. Both children are graduates of Sylacauga High School.
Liaison to Historical Commission, Police Department, and Street Department. Serves on the Lake Howard Authority and the Tree Commission.
