Building Services Department

The Building Services and Code Department promotes public health, safety, and general welfare through implementation and enforcement of the City's ICC and NEC codes along with sign, planning, and zoning ordinances. The office can be reached at 256-391-4202 from 7:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. weekdays.

The Planning and Zoning section coordinates all proposed City projects, both residential and commercial, prior to the permitting phase. In addition to advising the Planning Commission and the Board of Adjustment & Appeals, it is responsible for dealing with issues related to zoning, setback requirements, subdivisions, signs, variances, non-approved home-based businesses, grants, economic development planning and other aspects of community planning.
